Brief History of Porsche

Porsche is a very well-known world class car brand. The company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche, in Germany, back in 1931 and it goes as “Dr.-Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG” by its full name. Still with its headquarters in Germany, most precisely in Stuttgart, this brand is owned by Volkswagen AG and it is famous more for its sports cars, capable of delivering stunning performances. It is interesting to know that when the company was founded since it did not build cars under its own brand. The first sign of activity in this company began with offering consultation and development work in the automotive area.

The first task the company received from the government in those days, was to create a car suitable to be driven by the people. Consequently, this is how the Volkswagen cars appeared. And so it turns out that the first car ever designed by Porsche was the Volkswagen Beetle, which is considered one of the most popular cars in automotive history. Even these days, the Volkswagen Beetle is highly appreciated as an urban car with a pleasant design. The very first Porsche car, which was the Porsche 64, was developed only later on, in 1939. For its creation, the company used a good number of parts from the Beetle.

World War II influenced the activity of the company, which started producing military cars instead. Thus, during this period, the Kübelwagen appeared, measured to be a military version of the popular Beetle. Porsche even produced several tank models, like Tiger I and II. Unfortunately, at the end of the war, the company fell in the hands of the British. Ferdinand, the founder of Porsche ended up in jail for 20 years, convicted of war crimes. Still, his son, Ferry Porsche, remained in the company. He was the one that managed the company during hard times and decided to create a car on his own since he couldn’t find a proper car to buy in those days. Thus, the first version of Porsche 356 came to life. After the car was showcased to a number of car dealers, pre-orders started to flow in. And so the production of this car is recorded to have been tailored by Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH, which was a company founded by Ferry and his sister, Louise.

For very many people, Porsche 356 represents the first Porsche car model ever, even in these days, in spite of the fact that the company released other vehicles as well. In 1948, the 356 model received its road certification for the first time. Among the firsts offered by this company, we can mention the first car equipped with Tiptronic transmission and a 4-wheel drive system. These were both available in the Porsche 911 model, released in 1989. Although Porsche separated itself from Volkswagen, the relationship between the two companies was always a good one and they collaborated on several occasions, like for the making of the Porsche Cayenne. This car has the same chassis as the one used for Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Tuareg.

To these days, Porsche still manages to amaze automotive enthusiasts with its amazing cars. The company develops outstanding vehicles that are rarely exceeded when it comes to performance, comfort, luxury, and technology.
